On our walking tour you will see the best sights in Oxford including the university, museums and churches. We finish the walking tour about midday. You will then have time for lunch and to explore and enjoy the surroundings. Our departure late afternoon will bring you back to Bournemouth early evening.
A place that has helped shape history. For over 800 years it has been a home to royalty and scholars. Its beautiful architecture, museums and young student population make the city a wonderful place to visit at any time of year.
University: The University of Oxford dates back to the 11th century. There is no central campus; the university is all over the city centre consisting of nearly 40 colleges and over 100 schools looking after over 20,000 students.
Perhaps the most well known college is Christchurch College. This is the largest college in Oxford, and some scenes from the Harry Potter film series were taken inside Christcollege College as well as Divinity School and New College and all are usually open to visitors, with a small charge.
Oxford Castle: The castle dates back to the 11th century but now its mostly in ruins. The castle’s main use was as a prison which remained so, until as recently as 1996. Today you can visit with an entrance cost.
Oxford's free museums:
The Ashmolean Museum is the world’s first university museum, it contains paintings and archaeological pieces from around the world. The Museum of the History of Science contains scientific instruments from medieval times up to the modern day and there is also the impressive Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
